Two single mattresses that zip together into one bed, or separate into two. This is the pillowtop in the range, which is a different proposition to the flat-topped models: an extra padded layer is stitched on top of the mattress, so the first thing you meet is softness, with the support arriving underneath it.

Beneath that sits a 2000 pocket spring unit per half. Each spring is wrapped individually and moves only under the weight directly on it, so the mattress reads the shape of each person separately and one of you turning over is much less likely to disturb the other.

The memory gel is the part that earns its place on a pillowtop. Ordinary memory foam holds heat, which is the usual complaint about deep padded mattresses; gel-infused foam draws that heat away, so you get the cushioning without the stuffiness. Wool, hypoallergenic filling and high-loft wadding make up the rest.

The tension is medium, and the whole thing is hand-tufted with side-stitched borders and turning handles fitted. Note that a pillowtop is rotated end to end rather than flipped — the padded side is meant to stay upward.
