Spring count is about resolution. At 4000 the springs are fine and closely packed, so the mattress responds to the difference between your shoulder, waist and hip instead of supporting your whole body as a single load. Every spring is wrapped in its own pocket and compresses only under the weight directly on it, which is also why one of you turning over barely registers on the other side.

Above the springs sit memory foam and high-loft wadding. The foam softens with body heat and contours to pressure points; the wadding gives the surface its comfort. Tension is medium.
