Floating Universal Divan Base

A divan base that appears to float. Instead of sitting on castors or feet at the corners, the base is carried on a recessed central plinth set back from the edges, so from normal standing height you see a shadow gap underneath rather than legs.

It is a genuinely different look from a standard divan — lighter, more like a designed bed frame than a box on wheels — and it suits rooms where the bed is the main piece of furniture.

The trade-off is underneath. There is no clearance for storage boxes the way there is beneath a castored divan, so if you rely on shoving things under the bed, choose the ottoman option or a drawer base instead.

Platform top construction, so all the give comes from the mattress.

Two configurations

• No storage — the clean floating look, nothing underneath.
• End-opening ottoman — the base lifts on gas struts from the foot end, opening the entire area beneath the bed. You keep the floating appearance and gain the largest storage volume of any divan format. Needs headroom above and clear floor in front to lift.
