Wing means the sides come forward, wrapping slightly around the head of the bed rather than sitting flat against the wall. Two things follow from that. Visually it frames the bed and gives the whole arrangement more weight. Practically, the wings cut draughts and make the head of the bed a more enclosed place to sit up and read.

It stands on legs that slide under the divan base, held by the bed's weight, with no wall fixing.
