Feet

The same universal divan base construction, upholstered in a leather-look fabric rather than woven cloth. Practically, that means it wipes clean, which is worth having in a child's room, a rental or anywhere the bed takes a bit of punishment.

Universal here means a platform top — a solid flat deck rather than a sprung one. All the give comes from the mattress, which gives a firmer overall feel and wears more evenly than a sprung-top base.

Choosing your storage

No drawers — plain base, for beds in alcoves or against furniture.
2 drawers, same side — both open the same way, for beds with one side against a wall.
2 drawers, one either side — for beds with clear access on both sides.
Large end drawer — one deep drawer at the foot, ideal for bedding. Needs floor space at the end of the bed.
4 drawers — two each side.
2 drawers + 2 continental — two full plus two shallower at the head end.
Slide storage — a pull-out platform, on smaller sizes.
End-opening ottoman — the base lifts on gas struts from the foot, opening the whole area under the bed. Most storage by far; needs headroom and clear floor in front.
