Split Divan Bed Base

A divan base that arrives in four separate pieces and assembles in the room. This exists for one reason, and it is a good one: getting a bed into a house that will not take one.

If you have a tight turn on the stairs, a narrow landing, a loft hatch, a boat or a caravan, a one-piece king base simply will not go. A split base goes up in sections and bolts together where it needs to be. It is the difference between owning the bed you want and owning the bed that fits through the door.

Once assembled it works exactly as a standard platform-top divan — a solid flat deck, with all the give coming from the mattress.

Choosing your storage

• No drawers — plain split base.
• 2 drawers, same side — for a bed with one side against a wall.
• 2 drawers, one either side — access from both sides.
• 4 drawers — two each side.
• 2 drawers + 2 continental — two full plus two shallower at the head end.

Measure your access route before ordering — and if a standard base would fit, it is usually the cheaper choice. This one earns its money when access is the problem.
